The rules of engagement

I have a confession to make. I sort of retconned this first blog post after writing the two following it.

I went back and forth on how best to write an "introduction" to this blog. I never could decide on a cool enough opening, so I skipped it for a bit and started writing about the shit I actually wanted to write about.

Starting something is hard. Fantasizing about the end result, or interesting details in the middle is the easy part. I struggle with defining a coherent starting point that somehow makes its way towards the middle. Here's the proof - I've already spent 100 words without saying anything.

Real Intro

My name is Raymond Cox, but everyone calls me Ray. My hobbies are the standard-issue midwest techie starter kit: camping, kayaking, fishing, disc golf, brewing, 3d printing, vidya games, etc.

I've been a Software Engineer long enough to catch myself saying "Back in the day..." while discussing convenient solutions with my co-workers. Not quite long enough to retire as a goat farmer, although that is sounding really good lately.

What is going on in the tech space? No one can talk about anything other than fuckin' AI anymore.

Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate

If you haven't guessed by now this is not going to be a straight-edge work of literature. This is the one and only disclaimer on swearing I'll ever give.

Rules of Engagement

I like to bridge and bastardize metaphors/phrases to fit in places where they don't really belong.

Anyways, here's some upfront promises I'm making to myself and anyone who ever reads this nonsense.

What this is NOT

This blog will never be about:

I will also never use Artificial Intelligence to write, revise, publish, or anything related to the creative writing process. We only do raw and unfiltered human stupidity here baby.

What this... is?

I don't even know if I'm being honest. I just feel like I got shit to say, and it's kinda therapeutic to get it down on markdown paper.

I probably should have just bought a journal or booked a therapist, but then I wouldn't have had an excuse to spend numerous hours :sparkles: building software :sparkles:.

I told you starting something was hard. Start a blog they said, it will be fun they said. I spent way too many hours scaffolding this blog together as a distraction while procrastinating the writing part. Going forwards I'll probably just blame writer's block anytime I'm adding features no one asked for improving the platform.

Anyways, enjoy.
